Summary

Abigail defends and prosecutes in all areas of crime both in civilian and military courts. Related civil work is also undertaken. Abigail has undertaken an International Human Rights Scholarship to work on appeal cases on death row in North Carolina, USA. Abigail spent 3 months in Fiji working on cases with international elements.

Abigail has appeared in several extradition cases and is also involved in current cases involving judicial review and large criminal proceedings.

R v Hylton & Ors

Four handed attempted murder at the Central Criminal Court. Defendant was successful in an application to dismiss but was recharged following the conviction of his three co-defendants of s.18 GBH. Defendant pleaded guilty to the same.

R (on the application of Testwood Fisheries) v The Environment Agency

Judicial Review of the Environments Agency’s decision to carry out work at Testwood Fisheries which was resisted. It is claimed that the expert reports relied upon were erroneous and contrary evidence had been ignored without due consideration.

R v Stroud

9 count indictment of theft and evasion of liability by deception. The defendant was a car salesman who had declared himself bankrupt. The crown alleged that he had deliberately not returned the proceeds of car sales to their owners and never intended to. The trial lasted 3 weeks. The defendant was acquitted of one count but convicted of the other 8.

R (on the application of Culligan) v PATAS

Privately funded Judicial Review of the decision of PATAS not to reopen a case in the interests of justice.

Inquest into the death of Michael Barker

Counsel for deceased’s parents.

R v Kaygisiz & Ors

Junior counsel in four handed case concerning two counts of conspiracy to supply firearms and ammunition.

R v Messenger & Others

Junior counsel on four handed case concerning one count of conspiracy to handle stolen goods and six counts of handling stolen goods. The case related to £250,000 of stolen antiques.
